Wedding reception song list - Our suggestions
After playing literally hundreds of wedding receptions over the past 10 years, we have gained a certain amount of expertise as to the types of music that will work well with most guests. Included below is a brief explanation of some of the styles as well as recommended wedding reception songs.
STANDARDS
Songs that all wedding bands should know and play at the beginning of the evening. Dinner/light
music songs such as Misty, New York New York, It Had To Be You, Unforgettable, The Way You Look Tonight, Funny Valentine, Route 66, Fly Me To The Moon, All Of Me.
CHA CHA
Fun specialty music for wedding reception guests who have had lessons - or those who just want to
go for it and dance! Songs such as Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White, Never On A Sunday, and
even the 90's hit Smooth.
SWING
Everyone still loves this era of dance! You know these songs, In The Mood, Jump Jive and Wail, The
Boy From NY City and - believe it or not - you can even swing to Tutti Frutti by Little Richard!
FIRST SONGS
Well, they're still writing these......but some favorites are, Amazed, Unforgettable, From This Moment, It Had To Be You, Can't Help Falling In Love, Have I Told You Lately. Anything that has a special meaning. Occasionally a bride and groom will first dance to a funny song like Ray Charles' Ain't That Love. That always goes over
well with wedding guests. It shows a sense of humor and a "we're here to party, so everybody loosen up" attitude.
FATHER DAUGHTER DANCE
Being the daddy of two little girls 6 and 2, this part of the night always gets to me. You can use songs like Wonderful World, My Girl, Butterfly Kisses, Daddy's Little Girl, Turn Around, Because You Loved Me, Wind Beneath My Wings... Sometimes brides ask us to learn a special song that her Dad sang to her when she was a little girl. A lot of times it's a song with her name in it. Believe me, it's always a special time!
Then you've got: Beach, R&B, Funk, Motown, Rock, Pop, Jazz, Blues, Rock n' Roll, Rock, Pop, Dance, Instrumental slow, Instrumental fast, Disco, Techno, , Italian, Latin, Greek, Irish, Scottish, Polkas, Waltzes, Rumbas, Tangos, 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and hits of today...
This is why you need to hire a professional and NOT try this at home!
